Do The Brilliant Colors Of The L. t. nelsoni Tend To Remain The Same Over The Years...

Daniele Jul 29, 2005 07:24 AM

Or do they get a bit duller or fade out as in some of the hondurans? I'm especially interested in knowing if the yellow banded morph remains the same...

Thanks in advance for any input.

well some time they tend to fade with the "normal" or the hets... i purchased a few "normal" nelsoni (has hatchlings), some dark and the majority was super red, almost blood red. the dark ones didn't really seem to get much darker after 2yrs but some of the best ones i had got really dark, not black, just a darker, duller red than the way they were purchased.

i have 0.2 albino nelsoni that are VERY different in appearance... one female is showing a brilliant yellow color (where the black band should be) the other showing white. the female with the yellow seems to have a more intense look, i assume the yellow intensifies the look... when i got her she looked a little yellow, but as she got older the yellow just got brighter, and the red got "redder!"

Hope that helps...

As snakes age their skin thickens somewhat. Thicker skin is duller for the most part.

Nelsoni may seem to get brighter at about 2 years of age, and then they slowly get more dull. Ever see a pic of a 10 year-old albino nelsoni? Not as pretty as the same snake at 2 or 3.

Are there exceptions? Probably. But they are exceptions.
