How hard does your cham bite?!

chameleoncrow Jul 16, 2003 01:01 PM

I have a female panther that bites! And when she bites, man or man, she really bites! In fact, she bites so hard that you can actually hear bones crackling,(dunno if it is mine or hers-but i bet its hers) and she actually pierce through my skin. I usually just let her bite me when i am cleaning her cage, like a little rottweiler. i should probabaly get glooves huh? Does any one else have little rottweilers for chameleons?

that is why i only like to deal with jacksons.

im afraid i wont be able to get a panthe or veiled out of its cage.....ever!!

jacksons get soo mad but never bite....some try to fake it

the closest i've come is having a jaxs fake bite me and acually get my finger but he never bit down....

YEah, jackson's do that, they'll ram you with their mouth open, but not clamp down...not the case with veilds...I had one of my old bloodline on my shoulder, my friend scared it, and it bit the back of my head--drawing blood--through my (very thick) hair. I know of several people that have had their thumbnails split from veilds. A dealer I met at a tampa show had a big mean, WC veild when they were first imported. The guy had the tip of his finger bitten off the bone.
I got bit by my first deremensis when he was a few months old, very strong bite. That was the only time a deremensis evert tried to bite me...it's hard enough to get them to gape at me...they're usually very mellow.
My friend ticked off a big male parsonii years back--scared the heck out of him. It just turned, looked at him, opened his mouth, and let out this loud, slow, deep hiss--like the queen alien when she see's sigourney weaver the first time in Aliens...
Almost got him too.

My veild hasn't bitten me yet, and it's not for a lack of trying. He's big enough to break a fingernail. Chameleons probably have the strongest jaws of any lizard for their size--they're just about the only lizards that chew their food.

My cham didn't bite too hard. I had him out in a small tree for a while, when I went to take him down he ran from me so I grabbed him and he whipped around and bit me. It was just enough to make me yelp and it scraped the skin of my finger a bit. Someone posted previously how to properly get a cham onto your hand...I use it every time I need to clean his cage.

Yes, of course there is a proper way to get your chams out. But if your cham is a biter, she or he would bite regardless. I have a few chams, and she was the only one that bites. she would even bite when i already have her in my hand for a while. But I do notice that she is more feisty when hungry. I would say that she is extraordinaryly fiesty. she even "jumps" or take suicide dives. Well...at least i know she is of good health.

That's one reason why I'm glad I got a Jackson's Chameleon. The most agressive he ever gets with me is he'll puff up, turn dark, and shy away from my hand, but once I get him out of his cage, he calms down right away.
