what do i need to make my tegu happy?

gtchris May 17, 2003 05:04 PM

I just got a gold tegu, the pet store said that he or she was 4-5
months old. They also said that it would only grow 3-4 more inches than the present length which is about 10 or 11 inches. From everything I have read they get to be 3-4 feet long, which isn't a problem. I think its awesome. As of now I have it in a 20 long aquarium with about 2-3 inches of mulch, a rock to bask in and 2 rocks made into a tent like structure for it to hide in. I also have a heat lamp. Any information yall could give me would be great.

It sound slike you are off to a great start! You got the substrate down, the heat source, hide spots, etc. A 20 gallon tank though will not last long for him/her. That is too small.
Even for babies, a 50 long is the minimum I would go with.
Yes, you are correct about their adult size! The pet store owner
(like some others) will tell buyers misinformation to make a sale and it is a sad situation. It sounds like you ahve done your homework though and you will find terrific information on this forum. Keep up the great work!!!!!
