anyone done any research on trevo worms? take a look...

divinitry Jul 16, 2003 01:04 PM

i noticed on nyworms.com that they plan to soon start selling insects known as 'trevo worms'. this is what their site says about them:

"A new and exciting live food source for your reptiles is now available!

We now have our USDA Permit to import and are shipping Trevo Worms. We believe that it is an important new food source for the reptile industry. Easily shipped and stored, and with outstanding nutritional content, it will rapidly gain in popularity as word spreads.

Our Trevo Worms are available in mixed sizes (approx. ¾" to 1 ½". They are approximately the length of Superworms, but are fatter and soft=bodied like Waxworms."

Here is what caught MY attention:

"*The Calcium content in these worms is more than twice that of any other known feeder insect!"

Anybody know anything else about these worms or if they would be safe for leos?? I just figured it was worth posting
Here is a pic of them:

This is the first time I've heard of those. They sound pretty promising though. I wonder if they have the super fat content like waxworms have?

Nutritional Information
Moisture 58.54
Ash 1.04
Protein 16.20
Fat 5.21
Calories/Fat 87.73
Calcium (ml/100 grs) 42.90

im not sure how that compares to waxies though

My leos love them more then wax worms, and silkworms. My male will sit patiently for them. I think he can smell them when I bring them into the room to feed it to him. Except I relized that he will not eat other food if I give him one every day. So I had to elarn not to give him one but ever few days or once a week. They are also good, if the leos haev a hunger strike. Its a good way to get them to start eating again. But yet I hear that some leos, will love them and yet eithers will not touch them at all.

I try them and my leos at first ate them. But the next time they didn't want it. I think it has to do with the smell, butterworms are mainly used for fishing and once in the water it gives a sweet smell in the water.

yes they have a distictive smell. I think its just personal preference for the leos. LIke I love mexican food, and my boyfriend doesnt. My male leo loves them though. So aslong as he likes them then that is good. My female sunshine had one to and ate it sometime lastnight. So it looks good for her too.
