what lizard would you recommend.... lots of criteria to be met

flooberyroobins Jul 29, 2005 08:35 PM

I have several requirements that need to be met... my wife has reluctantly agreed to letting me have a reptile in the living room..... there are SEVERAL conditions...
First, it can't be something that could kill or seriously injure a chihuahua puppy, if the lizard were to escape. So, no tegus, monitors, etc.
Secondly, it has to be something that can be "tamed" ,something that is not purely decorative.
Thirdly, it has to be in a certain enclosure, to be made from an armoir, so it "looks good in the living room"... After lining the inside of the armoir, installing lights , wiring, etc.. the usable space will be 3 feet tall by 3 feet wide by 1.5 feet deep. I can remove the drawers from the armoir if I were so inclined giving me a usable space of 5.5 feet high, 3 feet wide, and 1.5 feet deep.
Fourth criteria, she PREFERs that we get TWO of whatever lizard we get.
I'm looking for suggestions, PLEASE help :]

Well, crested geckos would work in that size housing as a small group. MAYBE a pair of female bearded dragons. The biggest problem is that it really isn't recommended to have more than 1 of whatever to a cage. As single critters, you would have a bit more luck. There are mountain horned dragons or water dragons that could have a very cool set up in there, but not sure about having more than 1.

Hope some others have suggestions!

your going to want something that is arboreal since therir is not much ground space in hte cage.mountain horned dragons are good and can become tame.any of the racodactylus geckos would be good choices.another animal to look into is the knight anole if you can find some babies to tame while their young.they are a large anole that are lime green to dark green in appearance and if tamed while you grow up to be good pets and great vivarium animals.i would not suggest water dragons for that enclosure as they get to large and that is not enough room.hope this helps

I have seen Water Dragons put together and live very happily in a group of three (one male and two females) I beleive they also grow quite large though.

Good suggestion

this project has been cancelled :] she finally cracked.. I now have her blessing to build ANY size cage I want IN the living room!!! We were at a pet shop and one of the customers brought in their 3 foot savannah, my wife actually held it! first lizard she ever even touched. And now she just HAS to have one :]And luckily its something that she'll be happy with just one. So we will be getting a baby savannah on sunday :]
thanks for all the suggestions everyone :]
oh yeah, the enclosure I was asking about, the one I listed the dimensions for, an oak armoir, just got turned into a rack for my snakes, which are ALSO in the living room now!!!

Haha, Thats awesome!

Better start building a room for that Savana Monitor. If you have a garage, just lay down some sand and rocks. :D haha
