Can I keep my wc black rat snake in saw dust?

Hi, I was wondering if i can keep my wc black rat snake in saw dust? because he got out of his cage today and I found him in our tub filled with saw dust. Thanks Scott

Skip the Saw dust. I think that would be down right unhealthy for the snake. Use Aspen or newspaper and you can't go wrong. I use newspaper for all of my snakes with the exception of my hognose. For him I use aspen so as he can dig through and bury as needed. Good luck.

The saw dust is in chips would that be ok to put my ratsnake in? Thanks Scott

Yes, I have been keeping my snakes in saw dust for 20 years. Cedar saw dust has an oil that reptiles are "allergic" to and you should not use it. Aspen saw dust is reccomended and is what I currently use, but had previously used pine saw dust for about 15 years and never had and adverse side effects.
