>>I just purchased a juvenile Blue Iguana from a Petland store in Ohio a few days ago. When I selected him he appeared to be healthy but a little while later I noticed that he was not very active at all. The next day he seemed a little more active he ate only like two tiny bites of vegetables. The day after that he ate alot of frozen vegetables, surprisingly. Then the following day days I have not even seen him eat at all. He spends all day and night sleeping unless I pick him up. I am really worried about him he is starting to lose weight. What could be causing him to sleep constantly and reject all food? What can I do?
Most pet stores give you all the wrong information when purchasing Iguanas. i.e. as Joe said...you don't have a Blue Iguana.
It is imperative that you:
1. get him to a reptile vet
2. read this site http://www.anapsid.org/ by the author of Iguanas for Dummies. Melissa Kaplan's info saved my iggys life. I bought him at Petco and nothing they told me or sold me was right for him.
In addition to specific vegetables and fruits, your Ig needs leafy greens with high calcium and low phosphorus.
He should NOT be sleeping all day.
Do you have UVB lighting?
Good luck with your new baby.
