cage size for multiples

what would be the ideal cage size for young 2 bp (sex curruntly unknown if it matters)one is still rather small ~14-16" and the other is ~24" the cage i have now is big enough for another year or so(48x13) what size cage would i need for both as adults and does the sex matteri know m f=babies but what about other combos?

You will want the equivalent of a 40 gallon for EACH. You shouldn't house two snakes together unless they're currently breeding. If you can't afford, or don't have space for two cages, don't get two snakes.

To save space, try boaphile plastic cages, which are stackable. They're probably the best caging (for the price) around anyway... A 3 foot cage is good for an adult.

a few poeple have said only to house them together during breeding, why is that?

Ball pythons are solitary - the presence of another snake in the cage causes unnecessary stress that can lead to things like feeding issues as well as illness and other issues depending on size and sexes of the animals. Yes - people do successfully keep pairs together - myself included - however I don't really recommend it.
