Tipped Water Bowl.......

diggy415 Jul 30, 2005 08:09 AM

Im looking for suggestions for keeping water bowls upright so a BP wn't spillit completely over. Buckets of water, crockpot type ceramic bowls you name it, the only thing left to do is to screw it down but thats a pain to clean, so any sugg would be helpful so she can get watered more often.

I use heavy ceramic crocks in the larger cages~ but for the smaller ones I like the little plastic dishes. They get spilled constantly~ so I bought a bunch of those polished rocks at the craft store and just fill the bottom of the bowl with rocks. Works fine, and if you put them in a mesh container (they have them for baby bottle parts at Walmart) you can run them through the dishwasher with the water bowls when you need too!!

That's what I've done - a big rock in his dish. He can still climb in there when he wants to (usually around shedding time) but it doesn't tip this way.

I just use a dog or cat dish which is wider at the base than top. Get the heavier plastic ones instead of the metal ones.

I use Van Ness crock pots. You take the small size (not the tiny one) and put into the medium size. It fits perfectly and makes it to where the snakes cannot knock over the bowl. Plus, any spillage will fall right into the medim size bowl, completely preventing water on the bedding. I saw a photo of someone using this method a few years ago and have used it ever since.

does your water bowl have to be big enough for the whole snake to get into? or can it be just big enough for them to drink out of and run their bodys throo...take a look at mine...

I make sure they always have clean water to drink and if their are any problem sheds, I will soak them outside their container. I generally seem to have happy snakes that shed well though..

THey have some weight to them so they don't tip them so easily if its an adult ball use a 4" ceramic dog bowl

What I have been using with good luck is re-usable Ziploc Sandwhich containers from the grocery store with a hole made in the center of the lid of about 3.5 inch diameter. Because the containers are low and wide they will not tip over easily, but if they do tip over the lid will keep the water inside the container. Your BP can drink throught the hole in the top of the lid.
Hope this helps,

This is a picture of one. There are also ziploc containers that are lower and wider than this one.
