new occipitolineata hatchling PIC (and bad pun)

Lindsay Jul 30, 2005 09:14 AM

It's always comforting to see that first pinkie go down the hatch with these little babies. Here's a week-old female after first meal and sporting a bit of an attitude. They think they're little pygmy rattlers.
Hey, I heard they like ground skinks but I hate to mess up my blender that way.

Hey man is that from the female you got from me or one of your others.??? How many do you have now?? I haven't heard of any being caught this year with all the rain and I have only heard of a couple DOR's. One down near the Okeechobee airport was supposed to be four feet long and very clean but very dead. Have you been looking???

Howdy snowbird,
These were from Desoto County lineage. I also hatched a few from an Okeechobee female but it was the one I got from Mardi Snipes. I only made it over there once this year and that was just on a return trip from Miami. Desoto is closer to me and I have relatives with land there so I looked there several times this year. Has anyone found a Desoto County mole king in the last ten years or so? All the snakes I know of in collections are descendants of animals found many years ago (C.Hurt, etc).

Dude that spot we both know was 1 1/2 hrs for me and I knew right where they were. I drove that at least three-four times a week. I was not looking to add another hour each way to go explore. Besides there are some killer red rats in the first spot. Not to mention a chance for pines and floridas however remote. I don't know anybody who hunted Desoto. I also think the known local (groves) is wrong even if they are there it is very differant than the habitat they occur in near our area. I believe what people know as the "spot" was false info. Just my opinion after seeing it first hand one day.

I've been road cruising Okeechobee county a couple times a week for the past few months. Hafta give Desoto a try sometime.

No luck yet......

Very nice Lindsay. Can you post pics of the parents? JLassiter's wife told mine she gave him her blender after discovering he was making pinky mice into pinky mush LOL. Tom Stevens

YEP....
I was working on getting some thayeri and alterna hatchling to eat about 4 years ago or so......I was making some pinkie mush to pump into some of the real stubborn ones.......
Well I did it many times and cleaned the hell out of the blender everytime...Of course I did this when she was not at home.
Anyway....One day she walked in on me and asked what "THAT" was in the blender. I told her and she gave me the blender and went and bought her own......LOL
I like to think of it as reverse psychology........HAHAHAHA
I needed the blender!

Congrats!

I've been known to make some pinky slurries but don't worry...I've got a dedicated blender for the reptiles so my margaritas are safe
