Het Albinos Hatching!!!

nerd_inc Jul 16, 2003 01:44 PM

Not what you expected, huh? Today is a very exciting day for us & we wanted to share it with all of our BP Forum friends who have wished us well on this project.

This is a pic of the first het-albino water monitor produced in captivity. Can you believe these take SIX MONTHS to hatch from the time eggs are laid?

A HUGE thanks to everyone who has sent their kind sentiments regarding the albino waters!!

I don't know anything about monitors but if even after you get them to lay you still have to work 6 months to hatch the eggs you deserve a lot of credit for your hard work.

cant wait to see the albino. I live in southwest florida, and saw a albino alligator for the 1st time in my life the other day.
probally only 3-4 ft, but it was awsome. Im truly surprised it lasted that long in the wild. It was in the canal that uns next to my house, i see gators there all the time.

Good Luck!!!

But this is a huge deal/accomplishment. No joke. This is not like breeding Ball Pythons. I wouldn't say monitors are easy, not by a longshot.

A HUGE congrats to NERD!

I live in southwest florida, about 20 minute from cape coral and we have had these monitors eat small dogs, turtles everything. They must have an awsome bite to crush a turtle shell.
Ive seen them once on pine island, along with iguanas as well.
Alligators all the time. but the monitors are eating even them.

The babies are almost all out of the egg at this time...raising 14 het albinos will be trip, but too bad they don't fit into sweater boxes very easily!

We'll keep everyone posted as things progress with these new gems.

Thanks again!
