Marley (the Orange Dude) Progress

LinsZoo Jul 16, 2003 01:46 PM

We haven't made any huge milestones since the 4th of July, he still needs a laxative to poop. But he has done 2 things I found rather interesting. Okay the first was just cute. He lives in my sunroom so that the cats and dogs don't annoy him. Anyway, I let him out of his cage in the AM to get his excersize, I went out there later and he had discovered there is a door to the great outdoors. Here he was at the base... Furiously scratching away.... I said 'just what do you think you are doing?' He looked at me I swear with a devilish grin! Little brat!! LOL~
Now I also noticed that when he is sitting that his legs are pulled up next to him in a normal position. I picked him up and talked to him and sent him off to see what he was doing with his rear legs. Before when he paddled off he had his back legs dragging out straight behind him, and when he stopped they were still out straight. Today when he went off to explore he had them held up next to him in a normal position (except they of course weren't working) and so when he stopped they were in place and he looked like a normal iggy! Lets hope maybe we can see some new progress. I think we are trying to undo a life time of mistakes with him. Let's just pray I don't make any serious ones!!
Everyone have a good day~ We just thought we'd check in before we go get some sun.

Thank you Sarah! I just pray I can do right by him. I don't know if he's ever had proper care.

Progress comes slow, I guess... I've been trying this with Bud, lately, to keep him regular- what are his nighttime temps? Could you keep his nighttime temps a little higher than usual? Might help with digestion.

The legs sound GREAT! I remember the first thing my boyfriend noticed about Bud getting better is that he was starting to draw his legs closer to him and finally, lift his entire body off the ground while walking. Randy only sees him every week or two, so he gets to notice differences more than I do.

Keep up the good work...

I like that pic (the glasses were on the ground 2 seconds later) How long was Bud not using his back legs? And congrats on the work you did with your guy!
He seems to like it cooler at nite. About 75 or 80º or less. He seems to go to his cooler area. In the daytime he seems to like it warmer. But then I guess that is the natural way. His peeing is great now if we could just get the pooper going right!!

It was about a month before he was actually supporting weight with the back legs. He was dragging them around before that, and when I FIRST first got him, for the four days or so before I found a vet to see him, I would just leave him under a heat bulb on my desk when I had to go out. Can you imagine? I would pile up pillows and towels around him and on the floor, in case he miraculously rolled off the desk or something, put a food/water dish directly under his nose, close the door, and just leave him there. He would never move!

Poor sweetie! Marley would only move about a foot when we first got him. He was too weak to do otherwise. When he tried to sit up he'd wobble back and forth like a little weeble toy. See my new post.... We got poop this AM!! Lets hope we are on a roll!!

I am glad you posted about Marley! I read the last post about his poop problem. I will read his story later, it is kind of late now.
I am glad to hear he is in a home where he is so loved! He really loves those cool shades huh? He looks SO adorable! Good luck and thanks for updating us! I for one will be routing for both of you!

I remember your original posts with the "Dude". It's a shame that Marley had to go through hell to get to you. I just brought home my first "pet" iguana tonight in my near 30 years of reptile experience - but I have seen countless green iguanas, including some monsters while honeymooning in Belize. The animal you rescued is one of the most stunning that I have ever encountered. Hope things continue to improve for the both of you.

Thank you, what a nice thing to say! Of course we can't tell Marley or it will go straight to his head. I think he's a beauty, and rather unusual but I was afraid it was just the mama in me talking. We have lots of folks praying for him. I do hope he can make it. He is a neat fellow... And so sweet!!
