Hypomelanistic Everglades Rats???

jds413 Jul 30, 2005 03:38 PM

I just wanted to get some opinions. I have had these siblings for over a year and they were sold to me as Hypo Glades Rats. The female is the bigger darker one. Since discovering this awesome website I have seen many varieties of 'Glades and am wondering if mine would be considered hypos or what? They are my first snakes and are absolutely awesome pets. I appreciate your comments!

I would say yes but not for certain because the pics are from a little to far out. My pics always come out bad with these guys so don't feel bad. Below I have pics of babies in a thread marked as "pics of babies". They are from my stock and are glades. Some are hypos some are hets. Here is a pic of a adult but as I already mentioned not a good pic. LOL Oh and I will put in a yearling pic too

They are probably hypo's if they were sold to you that way. A nice everglades (IMO) is hard to distinguish between a hypo or not as an adult. Hypo's are far easier to distinguish when they still have their juvenile pattern. As you noted these as with most other NA ratsnakes can be quite variable in color, but more often than not hypo's turn out pretty nice.

Nice snakes, TravisG

I want to thank you guys for your opinions. I guess I'll just assume they are hypos like I was told. And if they aren't, I still love 'em anyway. Take care, J.D.
