HELP! Lost thayeri!

riiotgrrl Jul 30, 2005 05:51 PM

I guess there really isnt anything that you guys can help me with on here, but i could use some consoleing. Sancho pushed out of his reptarium last night....he has NEVER done this...i have had him for a year or more now and this is the first time...im afraid that he has gotten into the walls or even outside now...the cats arent looking for him, we have TORN the place apart (except for the roomates' room...) and i am afraid i will never see the little bugger again. Im so bummed. I have had plenty of snakes excape in the past, but i have a pretty bad feeling this one is really gone. Any imput would be appreciated. Much thanks

What would really help you is to do a search in the forum archives for lost snakes and how to find them....
This has been asked here many times...There are many techniques...
The one technique that has worked for me is to cut a 1 liter coke bottle top off and place it in the other end of the bottle creating a funnel....Tape it together and place a couple mice in it. If you are lucky the snake will crawl in and eat the mice and stay there for a while.
Tape traps have worked too, but it is kinda rough on a snake....To get a snake off of tape you must use vegetable oil then clean the oil off of the snake.
Some people sprinkle flour on the floor to trace where the snake has been travelling...usually at night. This will determine where to place your traps........
Hope this helps....It is always terrible to lose a snake...I have lost a couple myself over the years.....
Also...That is one fine Thayeri too!

John's coke bottle thing may work as I once lost a thayeri and found it in a mouse cage. It had been able to crawl through the wires and eat 4 mice and couldn't get back out.
