Repti Sand

ruckus06 Jul 30, 2005 09:58 PM

I've read that this substrate (from Zoomed) is better than playground sand because it is finer, and less likely to cause impaction. How old (large) should my girl be before I can safely house her on this? I don't know how old she is, but I've had her for 3 or 4 months and she was 4 inches when I got her, and is now about 6 inches long. I still feed her small crickets as opposed to the larger ones because they seem to be easier for her to eat, but I'm in the process of moving her from a 5 gallon tank to a 20 gallon tank, and would really like to make the change to Repti Sand.

I don't want to start a debate on sand, but I would stay away from ANY sand product. We had our first leo on calci-sand and Reptisand, and she died of impaction.

Some folks swear by it, to me its not worth the risk.

i would move her fast because that is a little too small mine is about that big and she is in a ten gallon and soon a twenty but for sand dont use it. it is still possible to cause impaction. i used to have my old leo in repti sand and she ate it alot when trying to get crickets, repti carpet and paper towels work best. i hopr this helps.
