calci sand can imapact geckos, a lot of the loose substrates can. I personally am too much of a worrier to risk it, I keep mine on papertowels. There are people on here however that do keep theirs on sand, if you really want to use sand feed your gecko in aseperste tank. Most impaction is due to accidental ingestion while feeding. Hope this helps.

I agree completely.
NEVER keep a leo on sand. Especially not calci-sand. I say this because MY leo DIED from calci-sand impaction. So there are always risks. You can use a cage carpet if you want. That's what i use. Looks sorta real lol, and they can grip it if theyre running or something.

i had my hatchling on carpet and she used to get her mouth stuck on the "loops" while chasing crickets. When she got older i put her on the dreaded calci-sand and feed her worms in a dish..no problems.

Use nice textures tiles from Home Depot or Lowes. They will even cut to your tank size for like $0.25 a cut. I bought 3 noce tiles that had some texture to it looking like slate. Easy to wash/clean also.

i keep my leo on calci sand. I still feed him crickets with no problems. If he does indeed miss and gets a face full of sand he always spits it all out. I know you might say he might not spit it all out, but i dont belive so. He takes a good 5 minutes just spitting to make sure he gets it out. Besides he never misses

Calci-sand is definately dangerous. The problem with things as dangerous as sand is that its so unpredictable...people will say they havent had problems. But the key is, they havent had problems YET. Calci-sand clumps into very hard, spikey lumps when it gets wet (such as in the stomach) and even the injestion of just a few grains adds up over the years. Leos live a long time...even just a few grains a day can lead to a big impaction. Plus its ridiculously expensive.
