Cinder Blocks, etc.

redbeard92 Jul 31, 2005 01:07 PM

Hello,

I am trying to streamline the cleaning time of my caiman enclosure. Currently I use an assortment of large stones as a "stairway" from his pond to his land/basking area. The problem is the amount of time it takes to reposition the stones after a full cleaning. I've seen several photo's of what appears to be cinder blocks as a ramp to the land area of other people's enclosures.

Are cinder blocks safe? are they too abrasive and could they leach anything harmful into the water?

Thank you!

Rob

abrasive is actually good bc otherwise theres nothing to wear down their "claws". My caimans claws are getting pretty long bc i dont have anythign abrasive in the cage. I need to put some skateboard grip tape on the edges to help wear those suckers down. Cinder blocks would be fine. Just make sure to rinse them well before use to remove the dust.

Oh my gosh, where can I go from here? I've never seen a *hot topic* before........Is the next level up a trip for two to visit Adam Britton? or perhaps I should write a book and title it 'Cinder Blocks, etc."?

Should be getting a new digital soon, so hopefully I can post a few pics...

Have a nice day,

Rob

In my experience, CinderBlocks shouldnt be too abrasive. However, if you are concerned about that, you could possible line the cinderblocks with some of that indoor/outdoor carpeting stuff. It's thick enough to cover bricks without having direct access to the rock itself.

Hope this helps.
