Looking in the Bay Area, CA

BrazGirl Jul 31, 2005 01:14 PM

Hello from the Brazilian Rainbow Boa forum!
In consideration for another snake and I've always liked the look of GTPs. Since visiting the Sacramento Rept. Show yesterday, I saw a few GTPs and declined to purchase once I asked about their temperament.
Does anyone know of a real good place to get well started hatchling GTPs near San Jose, CA? I've yet to visit the EBV in Berkeley, but that's the next stop.
Any advice would also be great.

Thanks!

East Bay has some excellent Green Trees! They handle them often and they're very tame!!

I moved out of the bay a few years ago.
Deff check out EBV, well worth the trip.
Also, check out Sunnyvale Reptiles, over off Evelyn near Fair Oaks... I tried to look it up but I couldn't find the exact address. Nice couple runs that store, very knowledgable, may want to call first, they do not always have GTPs but sometimes.
and Exotic Pets 2628 Union Ave but they had a fire 2 years ago right around the time I moved out, don't know if they got their shop back together.
There's also Pets & More 4177 Hamilton Ave near Saratoga, but I don't remember that store.
good luck

Hey, I get my rodents at Sunnyvale Pets, they are definitely some wonderful people. I always keep out for new stock to look at and will have to put a word in that I'm looking for GTPs.
I will definitely visit Pets and More again, EBV eventually, and check to see if the Exotic place is still around.
Thank you v. much, it's good to see other BA reptile enthusiasts, even if they've moved.

Hi,

Exotic pets is now owned by the same person that owns Sunnyvale Pets. Last time i visited Exotic Pets, they had two GTP babies purchased from a local small time breeder. I would call up Exotics and ask if they are still available.

Hope that helps,

nick

Exotic Pets 2628 Union Ave is back in business. They don't have much of a selection and I didn't see any GTP's when I was there.

The EBV does sell some pretty nice GTPs - in fact I just picked up a beautiful, mean little Biak type from them yesterday. But, in my experience, their GTPs are almost always farm-bred imports (like the one I just bought). Generally, from what I understand, most of those are actually pretty healthy and the EBV does have a pretty good health guarantee with their animals so I would not worry too much. That being said, in my opinion the best source of cbb GTPs in the bay area is Doug Price of Price Animal Company in Hayward. I've bought 4 GTPs from him over the past two years and they are all perfect.

I'm in no way insulting the EBV, they are an absolutely incredible resource for reptile hobbyists in the Bay Area and I've given them a lot of business over the past several years and plan to continue to But as far as GTPs go, I feel it's best to really know the origin of the animal so you can make an educated decision when buying one. Good luck.
