Help! Stinky Dragon Poo, how do you guys deal with it?

sunbirdx Jul 31, 2005 06:26 PM

Hey guys,
My dragon absolutely REEKS when he poops, and it smells up the whole house. Some days I come home to the lovely aroma of dragon dung permeating my house. Do you guys have this problem, and how do you deal?! Could it be a sign of parasite infection? I bought him from a reputable guy, but all the same, I have never had a fecal done....He is on reptile carpet, and once I clean up his poopies, everything is fine....but until then, look out!

My Lizard has really smelly poo when he has had greens what i do is either clean the cage if it is getting bad or I spray it with a bit or special reptile tank cleaner (just to make it smell better) then flick a bit of sand over it until i have time to clean it out properly. i know what you mean about the smell though but since i have cut cabbage out of his diet he has been alot better.
I don't know whether it could be a parasite infection or not but i wouldn't panic quite yet. some one on her told me once that i needed to get a fecal done right away which costs a fortune over her and i would have to travel over 20 miles to get to the vet. i held off a little longer and my beardie picked up.
As long as he or she is well on there self i wouldn't get too worried i know its hard though.

Hope this helped a bit

Yeah, it never seems to fail that my dragon always poops under his basking light so that it bakes until I come home to that familiar aroma. They're so goofy.

Yah my dragons poop stinks too. It has nothing to do with parasites. I've had my dragon treated for them and now he has none and his poop still stinks. Lol Its a heated environment so that probably is a reason as to why.

Smells so good...

Get a Glade Plug-it-in for each room in your house? I dont think it would hurt them.

Well...dragon poo never smells particularly pleasant, but it really shouldn't be stinking up the whole house. If you can smell it across the room, there may be a problem. Coccidia is especially known for creating foul smelling poop. Reptiles in general mask signs of illness until sometimes it's too late. So while your dragon may appear to be acting normal, it could actually be sick. Best to get a fecal done since you haven't had one yet. I don't know where you're located, but in my area they cost me about 25 dollars and it takes only minutes to do. I always feel it's better to be safe than sorry! I wish you the best of luck.

Stare at me with empty eyes and
Point your words at me
Mirror on the wall will show you
What you're scared to see
I can see, yeah, wish I couldn't see at all
I can feel- Wish I couldn't feel at all
Hate to see- Wish I couldn't see at all
Hate to feel- Wish I couldn't feel at all
So climb walls,
Thin my blood now
And I crawl, back to bed now
