Reptiles is a great magazine. some issues are totally about one species (such as september issue...all about turtles). I read them for snake issues mostly. Sometimes representatives are at reptile shows and you can get a great deal on a subscription. I got a 2 year for the price of one. I love it.

It would depend on what exactly you are looking for. Are you a hobbyist looking for leisure reading or a student of herpetology, taxonomy or some other discipline? Reptile Magazine is good table top hobbyist magazine but if you want something with academic substance skip magazines all together and look for a good journal. Try searching with an academic search engine. These can be pricy if you are not a University student. When you read a good book or Journal check the citations and bibliographies as well. I would suggest you purchase a couple editions of Reptile before you decide to subscribe. It may be right for you or it may not but give it a shot. I personally get more out of the net, these forums and by researching things that look interesting to me than I did out of the magazine. I cancelled my subscription but do purchase an occasional edition off the news stand if it happens to have a particular topic of interest. There is absolutely nothing wrong with magazines but you mentioned you are looking for “good information” and that is relative. The difference between magazines and journals is one is for entertainment and the other for academics. They target different markets.
