I have always felt that a foot a year is a healthy growth rate. Some snakes exceed it on their own, some grow fast because meals are offered to "pump" the growth. Some just won't grow that fast.

There is also the individual factor. Some snakes are giants for their species, some are dwarves. lots of variables.

At one year a snake that is 16" is just as healthy as one that is several inches larger.

I used to keep lots of black racers when I lived in Charleston and they grow at different rates, as long as he is growing he is OK. he should be very alert and active moving around the cage also, racer that don't move have problems. That is one of the reasons I kept them, so much fun o watch!!
