Need Help with ID of this Uro

aprylla Jul 31, 2005 10:12 PM

Sold to me as a Mali Uro...definitely doesn't look like one to me. Anyone have an opinion what sort of uro this is? Or just a really oddly colored mali?

Here are two pics:

Based on the pic and the number of rows on the tail I would have to say it's a Saharan. Poor guy looks like he needs a proper diet and the correct lighting. Also looking de-hydrated.

Get him eating and in proper temps (if he's not already) so he can fatten up.

Why do you say it is oddly colored?

I am by no means an expert in the identification of these little critters! The head does look like that of a mali to me though. As for the number of tail rows, if that is a reliable way to tell one way or the other that is pretty cool! I believe female, and female mimic malis can be brown instead of black as well.

I agree with the earlier post though, the animal looks to be in need of some help. If you got her with that knowledge, way to go! If you bought her thinking she was healthy you may want to talk to the person you got her from. :-/ There is a plethora of knowledge to be gained from the people here if you need any help!

Oh yeah, I am *very* aware of the "not so good" condition this uro is in. I highly suspect that she/he was recently imported as well as the others I received. I got them form a friend of mine basically for the price of shipping, as he had no idea what do do with them after he received them in a trade.

They are all being quarantined, and have already been given medication for parasites.

The rest of them are definitely mails. I will post a pic in the next coupel hours and show them side by side so that a better comparison can be made.

Thanks to all for your imput thusfar.

Here are 2 pics of the "new" Uro next to my female mali uro. Didn't let them come into direct contact with one another (thus the pics taken with one inside her enclosure) due to the fact the "new" one is being treated for internal parasites.

Hopefully these pics will give everyone a better look at the distinct differences between the 2.
