something in the water ???

jimfmcdonald Jul 31, 2005 10:23 PM

for that past year I have noticed something odd in some of my snakes water bowls, it looks just like a persons eyelash, mostly dark but fades to white or clear at one end. Im just wondering if this is some kind of worm or parasite of some kind or if anyone else has ever seen something like this as well or if its just a threed of skin from the edge of the snakes mouth that comes off in the water soon after a shed or something simple like that. any input would be great. if I see it again I will post a picture of it. thanks.

What color rodents are you feeding your snakes?

That's a good place to start.

My snake has grabbed the last couple pre-kiled rats from my tongs either over its water bowl or grabbing it then constricting right into the water. As soon as the snake is done eating I clean out the water bowl. The rats have been white btw.

If you have free airflow in your room you may be finding mosquito larva in your water bowls. This has happened to me many times in Florida as I use free airflow in my facility. Douglas Beard / Flora & Fauna
