i bought this girl at a pet store that i used to work at. and then after a few months of owning her she changed colors. i think its amazing how this happens. but i dont know 100% why. people have told me that its something to do with feeding them diabetic mice.... but i dont think thats true. im not sure if its genetic or not but you have to think about the name img. gene is in the name.. so.. i dont know. heres a pic of my female whos changed into an img. this bottum picture is of her when i first bought her. see the difference?

Nice girl!

Would be great if it proves out genetic. You could breed it to an albino...make double hets...breed them...and any albinos hatched from them would have a ?%(help me out here Randy, lol) of having the remaining color just fall off..

If this IMG proves genetic and simple recessive then by breeding the double hets from IMG X Albino together you would have the 1 in 16 shot at producing a snow of sorts that generation. The plain albinos would be 66% chance het IMG (if recessive).

Seems like someone should have proved it by now if it is genetic though. Here is mine that I had to buy just in case. This picture is at the stage where she has started to pick up some pigment in the shed and the dark is increasing on her sides and the lemon yellow on her back.

IMG's have yet to be proven genetic..........but i have a feeling that there is at least one genetic line which is Simple Recessive........I have a couple im working on.....

Here are some pics of some of my IMG's from the past and present.

that is a gorgeous snake. is it the same as hypermelanism? its a strange gene. the pattern looks lighter but the background or black is extreme black! nice contrast. thanksss.

This is an Increasing melanin gene Snake. She started out life looking almost normal. As She grew and shed she has gone through some spectacular color changes. Starting with a perfect axanthic color phase. Then getting darker with every shed... I dont believe anyone ha sproven it genetic yet,
But we are involved in a project and should prove it this coming year breeding a IMG male to two IMG females... Wish us luck...

I cant seem to post pics on here but I have a big female who is nearly solid black, sure the pattern is still there but she is really dark. My question is this........What should I breed her too?? Is there a morph that looks better darker???

bytheshore1 Aug 01, 2005 12:26 PM

good question. how do these people get away with selling this morph when it has not been proven? and some of them say that they are proven. kind of high money for an unknown investment.
i know you have to act fast if you want to get in on the ground floor but still alittle risky for me. i will stick to my unproven oddballs that were a low investment. maybe i will get lucky. maybe not. tim

The price is generally higher because they are still rare in comparison to normals. Also, if the IMG trait is proven to be genetic only in the specific IMG that someone breeds....then they would have control over a new morph. If there are people selling them as proven, they definately need to show some proof.

I Hatched this girl out from my Hypermelanistic "Super Tiger" male x normal female in '04.She started out like the rest of the clutch, and turned grey on her 5th shed! She's pictured here with 1 of her brothers.

kkierstead Aug 02, 2005 10:06 AM

I know a lot of you said that this happened quickly after a few sheds. Did any of them happen over a long period of time? My three year old is starting to look a lot like T.Exeter's. A little bit more with every shed now. Even her belly is almost all white now. Just trying to figure out whats going on with her.
