Day 2 questions

Boost Aug 01, 2005 12:18 AM

Ok, I have a question or two for the masses.

It is day 2 of Bonnie and Clyde becoming part of the family all seems well. However, I do have some questions regarding their behaviour.

1. Will lizards lose their appetite when moved into a new enclosure??

2. How long will it take them to get used to their new surroundings and become their normal selves??

3. Clyde exhibited the behaviour of opening his mouth and moving in an erradict motion. Back and forth, up and down, side to side with both his body and head. His mouth was open all this time, Bonnie was on the top of the log, was this courtship??

Any input would be welcomed.

Yes, they can take some time to acclimate to their new surroundings, and will eat and act more relaxed as time goes on.

The movements you are seeing is called push-ups and head bobs, the male will do this when hes feeling frisky, towards his lady or before mating,........

Or males will also show this behavior in front of other males as to say this is my territory, And may posture his back up high and OPEN his mouth and GAPE at another male that threatens his turf.
This is called "DISPLAYING" it can take place before an actual BRAWL occurs.

I do not know why your male is keeping his mouth open while doing this at a female.

Are you REAL sure they are not both CLYDES ?

Hrm, good point there Eve, though this is the first time he's exhibited this behaviour. Sure it has been only two days but we were gauranteed by the reptile place that we picked out a guy and a gal. They are both juvies and well Clyde has all the colourations of a male collared in addition to his size. Bonnie, if she is in fact a Bonnie, has all the colourings and size of a female. I guess we shall see what occurs as time goes on as the place we have purchased them from was recommended by people in other pet stores while we were doing our research.

I will keep all updated as time goes by and hopefully will be able to post pics tomorrow, just need to resize them.

Thanks again for the info and advice

Look at the vent area (the slit above her tail) and see if there are 2 black dots on either side OR small scales , also.

The male would have a line of larger scales, pics of the difference are on my site, link below * SEXING (BIG PICS)

Well, I looked at both Bonnie and Clyde, Bonnie has the markings of a female and Clyde is a male.

So I guess Clyde was doing his we're the only lizards in this tank and we'll get it on later dance. Good thing I'm buying the vermiculite the next 2 days or so also good thing the house is naturally between 78 to 80 degrees.

Should be posting today.
