Help, my bearded dragon became black!

Flavia Guimaraes Aug 01, 2005 02:59 AM

Saturday my healthy 2 years old bearded dragon was displaying his black beard .I didnt care i thought he was not happy with our new gardner who was cleaning his cage. But sunday he was still displaying his black beard and today he has large black patches all over his jaw, lips, under neck and shoulders.Besides that he looks tired, not lethargyc but tired.Well he didnt get too much sleep the last few nights because i forgot his lamps on but thats the reason for him to become black? He is sooo ugly like that!He looks like he is duying of gangrene!

What is his problem?

Invest in a timer for your dragon's lights. A timer is cheap, and keeps him on a set schedule. A 14/10 schedule is good. For example, set the lights to come on at 7am and off at 9pm.

Stare at me with empty eyes and
Point your words at me
Mirror on the wall will show you
What you're scared to see
I can see, yeah, wish I couldn't see at all
I can feel- Wish I couldn't feel at all
Hate to see- Wish I couldn't see at all
Hate to feel- Wish I couldn't feel at all
So climb walls,
Thin my blood now
And I crawl, back to bed now

Sounds like he is feeling very territorial, maybe because of the new gardner cleaning his cage or being around the house. having his lights on all night wasn't a good ideal either and didn't help. I would get him back on schedule light wise, and see what happens. Or, if you have females within sight, he could be showing off for them. Or he could be trying to scare away his reflection, thinking it's another adult male.
