Do some just have weak immune systems?

silversunkiss9 Jul 16, 2003 02:45 PM

My female het. albino, Corathime, has been sick twice since I've owned her (I bought her about a year and a half ago). Does she just have a weak immune system? I was going to breed her, but definitely not now since I don't want to stress her in the rest of her life, even if she does recover. Right now, I'm not even sure if she'll recover. She used to weigh about 75g, and last time I checked she was 35g so I'm almost scared to weigh her again. I took her to the vet again last Thursday, but he said with the new medication she'd improve and start eating (eye and respiratory infection). No luck so far, though, besides mashed up food, and her eyes are still swollen. It's still possible for her to recover right? She's the sweetest thing (the one in my signature- photo taken when she was younger). Any other advice for me?

Well, your setup may be causing some problems. Respiratory infections often occur when a creature from a arid region is exposed to high humidity (which often occurs in the summertime). Actually, if you have an air conditioned room (not below 70!) it may be better to move the tank in there since the air will be dryer. Just don't put the tank near the unit (if you don't have central air that is).
It is very possible leos can have weak immune systems, just like people can have them. But I think it may have more to do with the way she is being housed than with her. Good luck!
