Feeding neo-nates

austinnichols Aug 01, 2005 08:05 AM

For the first time I have hatched a clutch of L.t.t and another of L.t.sispilla. These new borns are considerably smaller than the other species I keep. What will these babies eat? Does anyone know? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'd give them the opportunity to eat very new pinkies first, if that doesn't work go with mouse tails from fat adult mice.

This is what I do for getting my temporalis started. They are extremely small hatchlings too...

Cut off the rear legs of a fuzzy mouse. While holding the snake, gently tap it with the thigh-end of the mouse leg under the snake's chin or on it's throat. Usually this will trigger a response where it will open it's mouth. Slip the mouse leg into it's mouth. Once it bites onto the leg, gently set the snake down, but remain holding onto it at the tail-end of it's body. If you let go of the snake, they tend to spit out the food item, but if you gently hold on they usually will end up swallowing it. I usually like to get 2-3 fuzzy mouse legs in per feeding. This will get some size on the snake faster than mouse tails.

Good Luck!
