Hi. I had this problem last night actually. I read on a reliable site that you just need to bake the log in the oven for 15 - 20 minutes at 300 degrees F. It worked great for my log and killed everything on it. Then just let it cool overnight or for a minimum of 5 hours and put it back in the cage!
ok I'll do that. what chance will they come back?? Are they harmfull to my bearded dragon??? What else should I do to ensure that they are gone for good?
While you are baking the wood, buy some of this and clean the Tank.

mites or ticks can be harmful to your dragon, if they are feeding on him. If they are just wood ticks and not bloodsucking ticks (or mites), then they are not a threat. However, best thing to do would be to pick up a can of Prevent a Mite which is safe for most reptiles (not good for geckos from what I have read) which you can spray all over his cage (dragon and any water, food dishes removed first of course, and substrates should be thrown out and replaced) and let air dry before putting dragon back in. If he has any feeding on him, just soak him and within a few minutes the mites will drown and most will float off. Those that do not can be gently removed (don't force them as you don't want parts to remain in the dragon that could cause infection). Any left on the dragon that are dead typically fall off later or during the next shed.
If they are not mites or ticks at all, could just be bugs from somewhere else (what kind of substrate are you using?). Need more detail about the bugs to know what they are exactly. Ticks or mites are usually quite small and roundish, and when full of blood look almost like fat flax seeds, but more rounded.

these bugs where white, and look sort of like lice. I have no substrate, just shelf liner. They came from a t-rex grapevine I am pretty sure. his rock pile was all pressure blasted, boiled, and heated, so I know they did come from the rocks. I had him for 2 months now, and the first month what he only had was the rocks and fake wood and there was no little bugz. for the last month he had the fake wood switched with real, and now I have little bugz.
The Screamilons website says to put it in for 25 minutes at 350 degrees While watching it for safety.
I think its www.Scremealons.com if you want to verify this.
