I bet he means when the snake is stretched out, and it is giving some slight resistance (as if it is hooking over something and gripping it) and some of the vertibrae pop, similar to popping one's knuckles. I noticed it with my boas a while back from time to time. I didn't observe ant ill effects, but it is probably best to avoid it if possible.
