Well the other day i was going to grab my leos water dish to change the water and my female patternless bit me. She was laying by the dish so i kinda tapped her with my finger to move and she snapped at me. Ive had her for about a month now and this is the first time this has ever happened to me. ive had geckos for about 3 years and wondered if anyones else has been bit by one of their leos before?

thanks.

Could not have said that better myself, Dan

A lot has to be said for the approach though. If some big thing from the sky poked me in the side when I was sunning by the swimming pool (waterdish), I'd most likely bite too.

The times I've been bitten is when I've been lazy and moved to quickly/from above -- they get spooked...and well, if they're grumpy and don't want to be messed with, that'll do it fair and square. Can't blame them really, its instinctive defense.

As a kid I had this one Anole that was so territorial of the water dish...every time I removed it for cleaning and refilling he would flare his red throat and latch on to my pinkie finger. He wouldn't let go until I put the dish back -- and try washing a water dish with an anole stuck on your finger! LOL, luckily Anoles don't hurt when they bite.

I agree with you both completely. I like how you refered to us humans as big things coming down from the sky. lol.
Yeah i've been bitten by my leo a few times before but iwas during force feeding.
Then she used to spit the liquid fro m the seringe back onto me it was pretty gross.

Hey Cherri, if I poked you in the side, would you bite me???

Leos can and do bite.... Alot of my hatchlings are pretty fast to nip at me.... I have this one hatchling that bites anything that goes infront of it, including my fingers.... I think that is more of a feed reaction than aggression though....

I've never been bitten by my females but I've been bitten several times by my first male and my new male has bitten me twice since I got him on Sunday. I know my new male is still getting used to me so I expect the bites and I've had my other male for over a year and he still bites me so I wouldn't worry to much about it since she was probably comfortable and didn't want you moving her.

LOL - I suppose that would depend on the situation...
