While I don't have any addition guesses as to the cause of the behavior (ecdyses related) there are several questions you can ask yourself to relieve or give merit to your worries.

Is your snake bright, alert, and responsive?
Is your snake eating and defecating properly?
Are there no signs of trauma or lesions on the skin?

Yes to these questions means you are in the clear and you have time to monitor the animal and search out other hognose keepers to ask if they have seen this in their animals.

No to these questions means that whatever is going on, related to the behavior or not, is affecting this animal's health and a veterinarian should be considered.

Hognose snakes are fabulous and incredibly interesting, but I have not had the chance to work with this species.
