Question about chain king X Brooksi

ZPD Aug 02, 2005 02:27 AM

Seems like alot of people are doing this combination. Does this combo create a goini? Is that why everyone is doing this? Seems like snakes i see advertised as Goinis look alot different than the crosses? Can anyone explain this situation to me. I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question.

Hi,
First an opinion--the only dumb question is an unasked question. Goini is a subspecies of Lampropeltis getula that is also known as the Apalachicola Kingsnake. They are very closely related to Easterns and to Florida Kings. I would encourage you to scroll down to Keith Hillson's last post, bring it up and go to his Eastern King website. There you will find a box with Apalachicola on it. Click on it and see some of the best pictures available of what a true Apalachicola looks like. You can also scroll down to July 24 and find a most excellent picture of what a wild caught goini looks like. I will not comment on the crosses as that is a can of worms I'll stay away from far into the future! By the way--spend some time at Keith's site!!! It is probably the best Getula site on the web. Enjoy!!!!

Not a dumb question at all. Alot of people are doing this combination but breeding an Eastern to a FL King does NOT create a "goini". The Apalachicola Kings are surrounded by Easterns and naturally intergrade with them. But FL King's range is much farher away.
