I would leave the wild herps in the wild if I ever do keep an animal from the wild I keep it for about a month and release in better health in the same spot(litterally).

Why are you having trouble with herps in NC.. I spent 2 weeks in the mountains of nc.. and found tons of herps... what have you found so far? i caught an eastern king snake, 8 black rat snakes, canebrake rattlesnake,12 black racers,3 copperheads, and midland water snakes, and a ringneck snake... the best to keep would be black rat snake...or a corn or eastern kingsnake... make very great pets...

I agree accept for introduced species. They compete against natives, and I consider it a environmental service to remove them. Hawaii for instance has had jackson chamelions, poison arrow frogs, and brown tree snakes introduce. All of which would be great to collect.
