Ziggy peeing in Dish

IgMan Aug 02, 2005 03:07 PM

My iggy ziggy only pees in his food dish. He will poop in his cage but the only place he will pee is in his food dish and it STINKS. whenever i go to give him fresh food theres always loads of pee in it. is this signs of potty training? should i put an iguana simming pool (sold at stores) in his tank so he pees there but even then. its disgusting and i dont know what to do. HELP!

Wow this is a stumper......usually the urates and poop come out together.
Never noticed an odor. If there is an odor I remember being told to bring a sample to the vet for testing. There is a problem.

It only smells because its soaking into the greens. yuck. the fact of urate soaked veggies is disgusting.

SciFI is right.
Igs do not pee.
They just do it all together.

So the 'pee' may actually be diarreah, hence why a Vet visit should be done with a fresh sample.

It is awkward for an animal to soil its own food.
Offer it on another dish plate in another location.
And yes, soaking does induce defecation, but it can easily be done in a large plastic tote or a abth-tub (always sterilize afterwards) etc.

Try just putting his food on the floor, and at the same time, give him a large low container to soak in. He might switch to discharging both parts of waste into the container. For my own ig I give a large container to poop in and a small one that he can't crawl into, to drink from (at least, that's the plan, he mostly poops in tub).
