excessive gaping and noisy breathing

spec Jul 16, 2003 03:45 PM

Yesterday I noticed Zeffer was gaping more than usual. I was figuring that it could be from the temps in his cage being too hot. When I arrived home from work he was constantly gaping and then I noticed him breathing very noisily. From the books I have on dragons and from what I've read on the web, it sounds like a respiratory infection of some kind. I'm in the process of trying to get an appointment at the vet for tomorrow. Is there anything I can do for him in the meantime? Any help would be appreciated.

Keep his temps up, when he is awake, let him sleep with his head propped up and offer him water in an eyedropper, don't force him to drink, it may go down the wrong way and that is the last thing he needs right now. Put him to bed at the normal time, don't feed crickets til the Vet can see him and get him on antibiotics.

Dragon with URI usually respond very well when treated soon enough, left untreated it can move into their lungs and that is major for a dragon
