Feeding Neonates??

HotRodHerps Aug 02, 2005 05:26 PM

Hi,

My eastern just dropped 11 babies while I was at work today. She's really small, probably just about a foot in length so I was only expecting maybe 4 or 5 babies and I expected them to be small but they are TINY!

What the heck do I feed these guys? I was thinking Reptomin (I have the "baby reptomin". Has anyone tried this? I thought I remembered an old Vivarium article on garters that mentioned Reptomin as a viable food source for neonates. If not that, what do you use?

Thanks!

Try small fish like feeder guppies. Earthworms are also an option but they might need to be sectioned. Many people say you should avoid “red wigglers” but I do not know. If you use worms you might want to use a calcium supplement.

Thanks. I'll try worms as I will likely end up releasing the babies where the mother was caught once they have some size to them. Worms would be available to them in the wild but there is really no fish in the area.

(don't worry, they are being quarantined from any other captive snakes and I wear gloves if I need to handle them)

Thanks again for the advice!
