I have been hearing more and more about rattlesnakes in Iowa, timbers and prairies mostly, but there are apparently massasaugas as well, and I have been told twice of diamondbacks(I know, highly doubtful) by people who should know better. Wondering if anyone knows the best place to look, just to get a couple natural setting pictures. The DNR lists them as protected in a few counties(I think it's about 8)-would that be the best places to look since they bothered to protect them there, as I don't want to capture or harm any? I have also heard rumors of a den and was told of a possible roadkilled one near Decorah(the roadkill, if true, was in the parking lot of Decorah's Wal-Mart). If anyone knows of a place to look it would be appreciated, or if you live near an area and we could get together sometime it would be even better. I am supposed to check a farm for some-a co-worker thought she heard rattling and won't acknowledge that it's probably a bull or fox snake in the leaves, but I have never heard of them in that area, not to mention that her husband wants to be there with a shotgun and I don't want them dead.
