Any body had a ball regurgetate a meal and then die??? I've had three babies die this way in less than a week. Do I have a virus?? All resposes are appreciated.

Hi there, it would be helpful if you tell us:

Where did you get these babies and how long have you had them?

Was this their first meal?

What did you feed them - and did they take it readily on their own?

What kind of setup are they in? (Temps etc.)

Do you have other balls and are they healthy?

Were the three housed together or separately?

I had 25 babies that were captive hatched from Ghana. I had all the babies eating exept four and I had to leave town for my wedding and honeymoon for three weeks and I had a friend watch over my snakes. When I got home two had died for some unkown reason. My friend took two of my babies home and Pinkie pressed them (pissed me off). A couple of days later they died too. I feed my snakes and only about half of them ate. Two regurgetated their meals and were dead in a day or two. About 10 days later I feed the snakes again and one more regurgetated and was dead the next day. The snakes that died were very agressive eaters and were outwordly healthy looking. The ambient room temp is around 76-78 at night and 81-85 during the day. There is a heat tape strip along the back of the plastic sweater boxes with a hot spot at 90. The enclosures have a humid spot at the cool end where the water dish is. I am very concerned that I could have the retro virus that is common to attack vipers. I work in a research lab where we had an outbreak of this virus on a colony of rattlesnakes, but was very careful not to bring this home. The symptoms of the infected rattlesnakes was a little different, and I'm not sure if the virus can effect boids. I am quite experienced in snake keeping but have never encounted this situation, so any information would be helpful. Thanks again.....Jason

are they drinking water before or after they eat? I was told to make sure they drink before they eat...feed them smaller meals also...try pinky..no hair...try it...good luck
