That dont know their butt from a hole in the ground that pinkies shouldnt be fed that much because they arent as good. Well, I belive that calcium levels are just as high or higher because they are usually full of mothers milk, they have hair, etc of course.
Fed pinkies, or whatever size they will eat, mice are mice, it depends on the care of the mice more than the size or age.
excellent then i will be switchin to more pinkies shortly
It is cheaper to buy lager if he can eat them.
Nice try but wrong again. So what you are saying then is a pinkie will have as much if not more calcium value than an adult mouse....good luck proving that one. Although pinkie mice do have some calcium from the mother's milk, they still have less than a more developed mouse such as a fuzzy or hopper. More growth=more bone development, which then equates to higher calcium levels. Pinkies are ok to start with by a hopper can be chopped into smaller portions for smaller monitors. Hoppers have much more calcium and nutritional value than a pinkie.
Now could it be that pinkies have the same calcium per size of the animal...meaning of course a hopper has more calcium its alot bigger. i dont know if this is true im tryin to find out
You can say this and that, like of course an adult mouse has more calicum then a pinky, its 65.257 times larger. But that is really not the question, is it? The real question is, does a pinky contain enough useable calicum(and all other stuff) To support the rapid growth of a hatchling monitor.
To this question the answer is without question, YES, the reason I know the answer is yes is simple. I have raised hundreds(and as we speak) of monitors from hatchlings to the size they need to be to eat mice, on only pinkies, with any supplimentation. There was no need to add anything.(I am also not saying you cannot add anything else, you can if you want)
I need to express the thought that many many people, say what they say, not from success, but from failure. This did not work so that must be the problem. There are very few who have had continued success with monitors. I happen to be one of them. I can tell you from repeated success, that pinkies are not a problem.
On the otherhand, If I am not mistaken, this thread in about feeding an ackie pinkies, well if it is, thats not a good idea, ackies do best on mainly insects, with pinkies or mouse parts added. Thats not to say, they cannot success with all of one or the other, they can. Its just harder with all mice with ackies. FR
exactly what i wanted to know. thank you very much FR
good to know FR, how old/big can i start giving my ackie a pinky? as soon as he will take it?

Try proving it right or wrong with actual experience. Ive kept monitors a long time, Ive made mistakes, Ive tried many many different foods, and I can tell you with all truth that any mouse is better than none for captive monitors, Also as FR says, compare calcium content to mass and weight, not from a tiny pinky to an adult mouse.
If Im wrong prove its wrong, dont just quote from the same old outdated petstore monitor books that have been requoting each other for 40 years.
Use real experience, but I guess the animals are lieing also when they grow and do so good on them copared to any other food source with no supplementation what so ever.
