Over a year ago I posted on this forum looking for information to help me raise a toad and two tree frogs. I am a first grade teacher and a student had brought them to school as part or our "Pond Unit". The child did not want to take them home so I adopted them.
I received such good advice and support from the wonderful people on this forum. However, I did not keep in touch. When school started in late Aug. I did not have time to spend on the internet. Forgot the name I posted under then so had to make up a new name.
Anyway, it has been a year and two months. Toad is still with us. He lives in a terrarium with three live plants, a filtered "pond", and as many crickets as he can eat. He started out about the size of my thumb and now he sits comfortably in the palm of my hand. He is about 4 times as big as he was when I first brought him home. Unfortunately he ate one of the tree frogs. So I put the other tree frog in another area (Planet Frog). It lived there until last May. It did not grow much so maybe it was already an adult when I got it. Hard to say.
Toad seems happy. How do I know? He eats really well, bathes in the pond, coloration is good. He even went into a semi hibernation last winter. He burrowed into the mud of one of the plants and ate very little for about 5 weeks. When he came back out of it he was as active as ever.
So here is my question. How long do these toads usually live? Will he get much bigger?
Thanks so much,
Susan
