Eastern Painted?

Rouen Jul 16, 2003 04:39 PM

I live in NW Ma. we have alot of aquatic turtles here, a few months ago I found a little tiny what I thought was an eastern painted turtle, but I just saw a pic of one and it didn't have the red colour on the plastron, I dont have the turtle anymore I let him go where I found him
maybe a hybrid or one of the other subspecies?
Thanks

the picture isn't very clear, so I can't verify the markings on the skin, but I just wanted to say that all turtles can get a red plastron if there are certain elements in the water...decomposing leaves, high levels of minerals, chemicals, etc...I've pulled quite a few eastern painted turtles with a red belly...
