Iguana on Pet Star

L0WRIDER Aug 03, 2005 05:14 PM

I think everyone knows about the show petstar on animal planet (if you dont its a show where pets do tricks) Well my mom was watching it and an iguana came on. i was excited to see her trick. Well, before they did the trick they asked questions about iguanas. The lady who owned her said they grow 3-4 feet and eat veggies and fruits. Then she goes on to say her igg loves turkey, chiken, and pizza! What is she thinking! she says she feeds it to her frequently.

so now on tho the trick. The trick was to get the iguana to stand on his hind two legs and eat pizza out of her hand! i felt so bad for the iguana. it wasnt moving much at all.

You should write a letter to the network and let them know that you're unhappy that they would show anything that shows animals in unsafe or unhealthy situations. It might have been the lady who was giving the misinformation, but it reflects badly on the whole network when they let things like that slip... especially a network that supposed to be entirely devoted to factual information about animals.

As for the woman herself, there really is no excuse for not knowing the basic requirements of any pet, but we certainly can't pretend it's uncommon. Sad, really.

A trainer myself, I've often thought long and hard about training my iggy to do something. He's not the most motivated animal, so I think it would be a special challenge to teach him anything at all. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

I wouldn't, of course, be using pizza as a reinforcer. It would most likely be some kind of well loved fruit, such as banana.
