timor tameing?

kevwat87 Aug 03, 2005 10:39 PM

alot of people i have talked to say timors arnt biters like other monitors , ut they say they never really get over being very "flighty" so now that mine is a baby doyall think i should work with him alot to try to get him over the flighty ness or what do yall think, i think i could get him to calm down but people keep telling me to just leave them alone because its more of a "display" lizard than a handling lizard like a svannah or a water, any opinions?

I have had a Timor bite me. It also bit my wife. It is the only monitor that I have ever been bitten by (so far, HAHA). I have had 2 of them and I really enjoyed them. I am actually thinking of getting a trio or more to keep in a decent size cage. My experience with them is they are scared easily and will bite to get away if a giant(person) reaches his hand into their home. I have no experience with breeding them, but I imagine the captive bred ones that have grown up around people may not be as flighty as w/c ones. I could be wrong, but it makes sence to me.

hhmmm thats interesting my babie is captive bred , the only sign of aggression he has shown was today he kinda hissed at me , but most of the time he jsut try's to run away, the only monitor i have been bitten by was a savannah but it was my fault for raching in his cage with a handful of chicken breast

I have a female that is an enthusiatic biter. CBB from mike stefani. The male is cool. Wont bite, but just puffs. The other female will just RUN! She was WC.

Many personalities. CBB, or WC, you just never know what youre gonna get. haha

Of course, I dont touch mine, except for major cage overhauls, so that may have something to do wiht it. I dont see the varanids as pets per say. Were more like roomates. hahahaha

Luckily, they have teeny tiny mouths. No stitches needed.

yes i do like the fack they done have a huge head like my savannah did, he tried to take off a finger once and it was not very pleasant, thats why im still debateing on buying a water monitor, because i dont care who you are, if you got a 5 or even 7 foot water comeing at you thats not in the greatest mood there isnt much you can do to stop it,
