Double Clutching Hondurans...

bdelator Aug 04, 2005 02:02 AM

Question:
I have a hypo tangerine female honduran that laid a fertile clutch on 06-10-05 of 10 eggs. I had no intention of double clutching her this season because she is not the largest of hondurans and I wanted her to gain weight and size for next season. I've been power feeding her for the last couple months but now she is apparently gravid again. Is this possible to be gravid again after not being introduced to another male after her first clutch? If in fact she is gravid, what is the likeliness of this clutch to be fertile? Could she possibly be just ovulating? Thanks in advance for any advice,
Barin
PS: As simple as it sounds, I believe it is safe to rule out that she is just "full" of food.

It is possible for a female to store sperm from a previous mating (sometimes over a year, though I dont know how long in Hondurans). Then after she lays the eggs the sperm are used to fertilize new eggs, many should be fertile.
