Hissing or Wheezing?

igywigie Aug 04, 2005 11:01 AM

Ok, well my BRB isnt exactly the calmest, hes a little moody, which is ok i like that about him. When i am handling him gently i hear no sounds of wheezing or respitory infection. however when i disturb him, whether in the cage or on my hand, he lets of a "loud breath." it sounds like hes just hissing, or is it that when he breaths hard he has a wheeze. whats the difference?

....Mine do not usually hiss. When they do hiss it is not nearly as loud as many other snakes when they hiss. Respiratory infections will usually cause at least some wet discharge from the nose or mouth. If they have difficult dry sheds they will sometimes have a little dry skin around the edges inside their nostrils and this can cause some breathing sounds. Hard to say how much noise is okay and how much is not okay. Sorry, not much help for you on this.

I would say that the hiss he gives off is about as loud as a ball python of the same age. Hes shed pretty smoothly the last few times. im not too worries
