lots of wc racers

Grish Aug 04, 2005 11:05 AM

Must've been a bumper crop of racers this year. LaHerper found a nest, I found a nest of 13 (all hatched after incubation), and a lot of the snake ID questions turn out to be black racers. Aggressive little suckers.

I think it just because the racer is probably the most commonly snake found. I know it is in MO and here in KY. They are a very active diurnal snake that hunts more by sight than smell and are encountered just about anywhere. They seem to adapt to their changing environments very well and will eat anything they can overpower, from other small snakes to lizards to larger insects and frogs/toads.

The racer is one of my favorite snakes, and they have attitude!! LOL
