Does anyone know where I could find a list of the laws that different states have passed regarding the keeping of reptiles as pets. I am mostly interested in laws regarding monitor lizards and crocodilians.

with laws being changed faster than publications these days, i would say on-line ? unfortunately that means probably a search for every state.

There is a book on the market called A Field Guide to Reptiles and the Law that has a section for each state. It generaly includes information on laws concerning both native and exotic species. It is a few years old but it is still largely accurate as most of the laws in question change slowly. I have encountered a few differences with species being added to protection lists since the book was last published. The book does list the agencies with jurisdiction which assists in online searches, which is always recomended to keep up to date. The book is a good place to start. Keep in mind the book deals with state laws and not local county or municipal laws which may exceed the state regulations.

the latest edition. you can use it for many past law information in that most species will probably still be on protection and or against, but only as to a base decision of a particular state. there are at least 6 states right on this forum including mine that have updated since the last publication of this book. hence, the need to follow up. And not as a smudge of any proposals of states. if one buys this book, i would recommend to buy it CHEAP and not at the retail level if you can find it cheaper.my opinion.
