Too much Calcium??

XIguanaX86 Aug 04, 2005 07:19 PM

Hello everyone! This is my first time posting on this site, but I'm on it everyday reading everything. I was reading the one post about too much calcium and how it can cause this bump on the joint. I noticed that my Iguana, has a small bump on his/her knuckle on his/her index finger of his/her left hand. S/he previously had MBD from lack of UV and I was prescribed by my vet to give her Calcium Glubionate with her food. Also giving her reptical Calcium suppliment and jurassi vite once and awhile. I am going to submit a picture and was wondering if you guys can give me a hand and make sure everything is ok.
What I wanted to know is if this is the cause of me giving her too much calcium because I have been giving her this medication since she has gotten MBD, which was at least 8 months ago...
S/he is my first lizard, but I seem to think I am taking good care of her. I always have the heat between 85-90, same with humidity, fresh food everyday, UV light, water, etc...

-If you can notice, its a small bump thats kind of a brownish color, I'm not sure what it is. I might take her to the vet to check it out.

I know I'm gonna soundstupid for asking this, but...
Was the bump there before giving her the Calcium treatment?

Calcium supplements should have Vitamin D3 included to help absorb it, though you cna give too much of it and too much D3 is not good news. The UV makes the ig naturally synthesize the D3.

Anyways, if the bump appeared after starting the treatment, then there is a good chance the overload of calcium may be it.
It could also be a small fracture, or wart.

Personally, everytime an animal... any animal, shows a physical or health problem, it shoulg go to the vet.
So yeah, take it to a vet and have him look at it.

I don't remember it being there prior to the treatment. I just remember it kind of just poping up...But I'm going to take him/her to the vet, Thanks for the help!
