24/7 daytime temp/lighting

flooberyroobins Aug 04, 2005 08:13 PM

I was noticing that proexotics maintains their monitors at a constant heat and light without a "night" cycle. This sure seems like a simpler way to do things. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I do it. Never had a problem that I know of. It keeps the cage from getting to cool at night especially in the cooler months and in the air condition.

I use 24/7 lighting for my Blackthroat. It gives your monitor a choice of when to bask and what not. Some people use 12/12 lighting and that gives your monitor a schedule and I just dont think thats right. A lot of people have that use 24/7 lighting have been more succesful in breeding monitors.

I'm going to go with 24/7. Now if I could just figure out my heating problem. I've got my enclosure in a 65 degree room. the enclosure has TWO 100watt halogen floods and its only 79 degrees in there:[

yeah, basking temp is right where I want it

Cooling off is as important as heating up. If the ambient temps are in the 70's you are doing fine.

The monitor will get closer to the basking spot to heat up when necessary, that's why its important that there is a place for the monitor to hide under the basking spot. Think of it as gathering around the campfire.
